The band marks its 40th year thrilling audiences around the world with this exciting release that showcases their unique brand of music. 'Are You Really Real' continues our quest to move ever forward musically, showcasing our unique sound with diverse compositions from all 5 band members and striving for performance excellence in the studio. As lifelong live performers, it can be hard to recreate the magic of the packed theatre or boisterous club in the studio, but with the help of producer extraordinaire Jono Grant and engineer Julian Decorte in the ever welcoming atmosphere of Jeremy Darby's Canterbury Music studio, we feel that 'Are You Really Real' has captured many golden moments. 'Are You Really Real' highlights the core strengths of the Shuffle Demons: finely crafted original compositions from all members of the group performed at a high level. The simple pairing of bass, horns and drums strips down the music to its fundamental elements and yet the result is a full sound that leaves the listener wanting more. The Shuffle Demons have honed this sparse yet forceful sound into a powerful vehicle for high level improvisation paired with sinewy horn lines and formidable grooving. Within the strong current of jazz emerge elements of blues and funk and rap, modern sounds interwoven with the tradition, serious playing offset by ironic lyrics, tight complex lines contrasted with joyful cacophony. We feel fortunate to be able to make music, to celebrate the spirit of being in a band that has a unique sound and breeds a supportive atmosphere, to the tour the world spreading our joyful music to those who crave art that is emotionally uplifting. We are particularly grateful to have joined the Alma records family of outstanding artists and work with the affable and supportive Peter Cardinali.
