- Utah 52-70 celery, also widely known as Tall Utah 52-70, is a classic heirloom variety of celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce) that has been a reliable favorite among home gardeners and commercial growers since its introduction in 1953. Developed as an improved selection from earlier Utah strains originating in the early 20th century, this cultivar produces tall, upright plants reaching up to 30 inches in height, with crisp, tender stalks typically 11 to 12 inches long that exhibit a medium to dark green color. Prized for its naturally sweet, non-bitter flavor and smooth texture without requiring blanching, it offers excellent heart development, strong vigor, and reported resistance to certain diseases and defects like brown checking. Maturing in approximately 98 to 120 days, Utah 52-70 remains popular for fresh eating, juicing, cooking, and its consistent performance in the garden.

Utah 52-70 is a widely grown variety of celery (Apium graveolens), developed in 1952 and improved by 1970, known for its reliability and robust growth in home gardens and commercial settings. This cultivar produces crisp, thick, medium-green stalks that can reach up to 10-12 inches long, with a mild, classic celery flavor ideal for fresh eating, cooking, or juicing. It matures in about 100 days from transplant, thriving in cool weather with consistent moisture and fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Utah 52-70 is prized for its uniform stalks and resistance to bolting compared to older varieties, though it still requires blanching (optional) to reduce bitterness and enhance tenderness.
