SAUNA STOVE CAPACITY- Research the make and model of your sauna stove to see how many pounds is recommended for your stove. Some stoves have a bottom plate that supports the rocks inside, this plate may be adjustable which can change the amount of rocks your sauna can withhold. In an electric stove, rocks should encase the elements. 25 pounds of rock fills a cardboard box that is 11 in x 8.5 in x 5.5 in. 35 pounds of rock fills a cardboard box that measures 11.5 in x 11.5 in x 5.5 in. ROCK SIZE SELECTION- Many different sizes of rocks with the length of rocks measuring as follows, small(2-3 inch), medium(3-4 inch), and large(4+inches). Most of the rocks will fit between electric sauna heating elements on at least one of their sides. Placement of rocks may be critical to your experience. Try filling all gaps with rocks leaving little air pockets. NATURALLY FORMED- These rocks were formed in the creation of Mt St Helens. These rocks have proven their ability to withstand high temperatures without popping. WASH ROCKS BEFORE USING- During shipping and handling, fine dust may be created and must be removed. Rocks need to be cleaned with water before being installed into any stove type. Unwashed rocks can result in an unwanted odor in your sauna or steam room. Handling 1 rock at a time is the best way to complete this cleaning process. PLACING ROCKS IN YOUR STOVE- Set aside 3 of your largest rocks to be placed at the top of all your other rocks in your stove for a great watering surface. Try to fill most of the cavities in your stove with varieties of sizes of rocks. If using an electric stove, make sure your rocks fill the stove above the elements within. Direct contact between a hot element and water can damage the elements. Place your last three rocks on top of the others and install your rock guard/shield. FIRST HEATING CYCLE- A rock guard shall be installed on your stove to prevent contact with rocks. Switch on your sauna stove to let rocks heat. Check that the room is empty of all persons, to avoid cracking of the rocks. Allow the rocks to reach your desired sauna temperature and hold that setting for one hour. Turn off your stove and let the rocks cool before entering the steam room. Now your rocks have been conditioned and are ready to be put to use during your sauna experience. REPLACEMENT- For maximum efficiency and a better sauna experience it is recommended to replace your sauna rocks at least once a year, as the rocks will begin to deteriorate from intensified heating and cooling over time.
